1. Drink plenty of filtered water throughout the day. The rule of thumb is that you need 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water per day. This means that if you weigh 150 lbs., you need to drink at least 75 ounces of water per day. You will want to increase the amount if you are working in the sun and are perspiring a lot, or if you are going through a detoxification program. It is recommended that you measure out the proper amount for your body size in the morning and finish it before early evening.
2. Keep your blood sugar balanced. In general, most Americans eat too many carbohydrates in proportion to their protein. Carbohydrates are fruits, vegetables and grains. Protein sources are meats, seafoods, dairy and soy products. Fat sources are oils and fats. You should acquire 40% of your calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein, and 30% from fats. You should avoid refined sugars and carbohydrates as well as red meats, which are high in the pro-inflammatory types of fats.
3. Make better choices in fats and eat better sources Of them, In general, we don’t eat enough of the good fats and too many of the bad fats. Good fats, such as olive oil, can be used in cooking, or flax seed oil can be used in salad dressings. Butter is better for you than margarine. Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils are poisons to your body and found in most pre-packaged and fast foods.
4. Help your body get rid of toxins. As your body begins to function better, the organs and cells will begin dumping toxins. Very often, this dumping can feel like the flu. Drinking plenty of filtered water will help this process. Light to moderate aerobic exercise, such as walking, running, biking, swimming, etc. will also help to mobilize and eliminate toxins from the body.
5. Get educated about how your body works. Keep an eye out for our monthly classes held in the evenings. A broad range of topics will be covered to educate you on specific issues that will impact your health.
6. Other ways to get educated. We will continue to provide you with informative hand-outs that cover many aspects of achieving and maintaining an over-all state of well being. 7. About your supplements. Generally, chewing your supplements will help your body make better use of them. The ones you shouldn’t chew are ones containing hydrochloric acid (HCI), such as Hypo D, as well as proteolytic enzymes used for inflammation and taken on an empty stomach. Your doctor will alert you to these exceptions. Many of the supplements you will be taking are for therapeutic purposes designed to assist an organ or system that is unable to do its job properly, due to either an inadequate supply of necessary materials or cellular dysfunction. Don’t take yourself off any supplement without first discussing this with your doctor. This could jeopardize your proper healing and we wont know that a slump in your condition is due the lack of support of your organs and systems. When you are rebuilding these systems and organs, it can take months to accomplish. In some cases, you will need to always be on the support, This is especially true of multi-vitamins and targeted organ support where the organ has years of degeneration, such as for the heart, adrenals, and liver. Due to the lack of nutrients in our food supplies, a multi-vitamin that is well suited to you will generally be necessary.
8. Electromagnetic Balance — There is an electromagnetic field surrounding all matter. This field is negatively influenced by electrical and magnetic fields, such as those emitted by microwave ovens, microwave towers, radio waves, fluorescent lights, computers, etc. Some people have a higher propensity of being effected by this electromagnetic pollution.
9. Ask questions — Between visits write down any questions that you have regarding your health or your care. Remember, there are no dumb questions, only foolish people who don’t ask questions. We may refer you to a pamphlet, handout, book or video, or recommend an individual time with the doctor.
10. Exercise regularly — An exercise program should have a good balance between aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Aerobic exercises are ones that require large amounts of oxygen and are generally thought of as endurance exercises. Some of these include walking, running, swimming, and biking. Aerobic exercise serves to strengthen the cardiovascular system (heart, lungs, blood vessels). As a general rule you should exercise for no less than 20 minutes and a minimum of three times a week. Anaerobic exercises are ones that require little oxygen and are thought of as strength building exercises, These would include weight lifting, push-ups, pull-ups, etc. and serve to improve muscle strength, tone, and mass. The amount of weight lifted, the number of sets, and the number of repetitions performed have a large influence on what type of muscle building is accomplished. Any exercise performed which serves to strengthen muscle will also help to improve bone density and mass leading to a decrease in osteoporosis. Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise routine in order to assure you that any specific exercises are not contradicted by any health conditions that you have.
